VEH: Przypadek 23 - Sarkoidy

Knock House – a four year old chestnut Thoroughbred gelding.

The above horse was admitted on the 13th August 2013 for removal of multiple sarcoids under general anaesthesia. Surgery was performed on the same day and discrete ulcerated nodular sarcoids were removed from the right side of the sternum, the left caudal ribcage, the left inner thigh, the left shoulder and multiple smaller sarcoids to the right of the sheath. The sarcoids were excised and the more accessible resection sites were closed with buried absorbable sutures followed by skin staples while the resection sites on the inner thigh and near the sheath were closed with multiple layers of absorbable sutures only. The resection sites were all coated with a layer of topical silver antibacterial spray. Knock House made a good recovery from anaesthesia and was treated with a short course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. He was discharged from hospital on the 14th August and at the time all incisions were intact although slight swelling was noted on the resection site on the left caudal rib cage. The staples should be removed ten to fourteen days from the date of surgery and the areas monitored for local recurrence.
